The Hammond Cup was initiated by Peninsula Grammar and Ivanhoe Grammar as a mark of respect to Jason Hammond. Jason was a much loved member of staff at Peninsula who sadly passed away in 2013. He was a much respected footballer for Devon Meadows, and later became president of the club, and also was involved with Karingal FNC.
He left an indelible mark on AGSV football overall, and Peninsula Grammar football in particular. Players such as Lachie Whitfield, Billy Hartung, Jarrod Grant, John McCarthy and Nathan Jones all benefitted and matured as young men and footballers under Jason’s tutelage. He used football to build bonds with many students who were both in his classroom and on the football field.
This year the Hammond Cup will played at The Harry McDonald Oval on this Friday, May 27th at 2:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for the OPFC to join the Peninsula Grammar football community and come along to support the team – including current Pirate Bailey Payze - in their endeavours, and also demonstrate their respect for a man who loved his football at all levels.
